Ziggy’s Priorities / On the Issues
Public Safety: Building a Safer Tukwila
As your City Councilmember, I'll prioritize public safety through a balanced approach that addresses both immediate concerns and long-term prevention:
Addressing Youth Violence: While overall crime is down in Tukwila, the rise in youth and gang-related violence demands immediate attention. I'll support targeted outreach programs that connect young people with positive alternatives.
Community-Based Policing: I believe in police officers who are visible community partners, not just emergency responders. I'll work to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and our neighborhoods, schools, and businesses.
Youth Opportunity Programs: When young people have meaningful paths forward—whether through education, trades training, or job readiness programs—they're less likely to engage in criminal activity. I'll champion investments in youth development as a public safety strategy.
Responsible Resource Allocation: I'll ensure our police department has the tools, training, and support they need to serve effectively while maintaining accountability to the community.
Housing Affordability: Creating Homes for Everyone
The housing and affordability crisis affects everyone in our region, and Tukwila needs practical solutions that work for our community:
Streamlining Development: As someone with experience in real estate, I understand how delays, redundant studies, and excessive permitting costs drive up housing prices. I'll work to make the development process more efficient without sacrificing quality.
Developer Partnerships: I'll create incentives for developers who commit to building affordable, mixed-income housing that strengthens our neighborhoods. I also support building larger multifamily housing where it makes sense in the Southcenter Mall vicinity and along Tukwila International Blvd while keeping our more traditional neighborhoods protected from over development
Housing First Approach: For those experiencing homelessness, stable housing is the foundation for addressing other challenges. I'll advocate for expanding access to transitional and permanent housing paired with supportive services and locating these close to the services they need.
Small Business Success: Growing Our Local Economy
As a business owner who has operated multiple successful enterprises, I understand what it takes for small businesses to thrive:
Cutting Red Tape: I'll work to simplify regulations and permitting processes that can be obstacles for entrepreneurs trying to start or expand businesses in Tukwila.
Equitable Contracting: Our city's procurement practices should reflect our values of inclusion and opportunity. I'll ensure that business ownership is fair and reflects the rich diversity of our city.
Business District Revitalization: I'll support investments in our commercial areas to make them more attractive, accessible, and vibrant for both businesses and customers.
Workforce Development: By connecting Tukwila businesses with local talent, we can create jobs and opportunities while strengthening our community.
Fiscal Responsibility: Managing and Balancing Budgets
Taxpayer dollars should be treated with respect and managed efficiently, particular during these times:
Transparent Budgeting: I'll support clear, accessible information about how the city spends your money, with regular opportunities for public input.
Smart Investments: Every expenditure should deliver real value to residents. I'll prioritize projects that address critical needs and support long-term community values.
Grant Opportunities: I'll work to secure additional funding through grants and partnerships to extend the impact of local tax dollars.
Sustainable Planning: Responsible financial management means looking beyond short-term fixes to create lasting solutions that serve Tukwila for generations to come.
A Vision for One Tukwila
This race will be a choice between a fresh vision for Tukwila and a rigid vision that is stuck in the past. I believe that by bringing people together, we can create a Tukwila that works for everyone—a city where families feel safe, businesses thrive, housing is affordable, and our community feels protected. As your next Councilmember, I'll listen to all voices and work tirelessly to make this fresh vision a reality.
